MFS uses the versatile system for 2100 Hamilton, a luxury condominium complex
2100 Hamilton, Philadelphia, PA
Mid-State Filigree Systems, Inc. (MFS) is pleased to announce the use of the versatile two-way Filigree Form Slab system in their latest project 2100 Hamilton in Philadelphia, PA. This system is unique in that it uses the two-way flat plate system cast in place design.
The Filigree Form Slab system can be used with any existing design of one-way and two-way cast-in-place deck without any re-design. This allows owners and construction managers to adopt the cost-saving system late in the project cycle, up until the time of breaking ground. As with all Filigree systems, the Filigree provides a smooth finished ceiling that does not require grinding and patching.
Located along Philadelphia’s museum mile, 2100 Hamilton is a ten-story condominium complex with 29 ultra luxury residences beginning at $2.1 million. Bock Development Group is the contractor, Cecil Baker and Partners the architects and the engineer of record is Thornton Tomasetti. The project features a half-acre private park built over a Filigree Beam and Slab deck.
MFS has been producing cost-effective, quality Filigree products for the construction of concrete decks for more than 50 years throughout the Northeast.

Mid-State Filigree Systems Celebrates Grand Opening of Hudson Yards
MFS Delivered One Million Square Feet of Filigree for the Iconic Project
Hudson Yards, New York, N.Y.
Mid-State Filigree Systems, Inc. (MFS) celebrated their involvement in the grand opening of Hudson Yards, the nation’s largest private real estate development located in the heart of Manhattan. MFS was proud to have delivered more than one million square feet of Filigree for the tower construction throughout the two years of construction.
The week-long celebration culminated with a ceremony on Friday, March 15, that included U.S. Sen. Chuck Schumer, Martha Stewart and Sesame Street’s Big Bird. CNN’s Anderson Cooper served as the event’s master of ceremonies.
The Filigree used for Hudson Yards was instrumental in speeding up the construction schedule while lowering the project cost.
“We are grateful for the opportunity to offer Filigree to this monumental project,” said Harry Wise, president of Mid-State Filigree Systems, Inc. “We are proud that the use of Filigree was instrumental in delivering a cost-effective product in a timely manner.”

Mid-State N.J. Facility Stores 600,000 Square Feet of Filigree
Have you ever wondered what 600,000 square feet of Filigree looks like? Mid-State Filigree (MFS) can now answer that question. MFS has gone high-tech on recent projects usingdrone cameras to photograph and videotape the massive 16 acre Cranbury, N.J. manufacturing facility. With the capability of storing such a large amount of Filigree in the yard, MFS can provide a timely delivery to construction sites.
This Spring, MFS took that technology one step further using video and photographs for construction evaluation.
MFS Delivers 30,000 Square Feet Weekly to SoNo Collection
MFS continues to supply Filigree to the “The SoNo Collection” Mall project at a rate of 30,000 square feet of Filigree each week. The Norwalk, Connecticut garage consists of approximately 1.2 million square feet of Filigree slabs and 60 to 80 foot long beams.

Philadelphia-based developer Bock Development Group and architectural firm Cecil Baker + Partners broke ground and starting using filigree on the residential tower at 1324 N. Broad St. in late March. More than 208,000 square feet of filigree will be used at The Nest.
Upon completion, the building will consist of fully-furnished luxury apartments in a safe environment. Amenities include an outdoor terrace, a game lounge, a tech center, an event lounge, a fitness center, and four high tech study lounges.
MFS Filigree Project Receives Best New Building Award
One of Mid-State Filigree’s (MFS) projects, the Bridge in Old City, was just recognized by Curbed Philly as Best New Building as part of their Best New Architecture and Urban Design Awards of 2017. Most notable is the 25′ cantilevered corner of the upper stories and the mid-tower plaza.
The Race Street project used Filigree voided flat plate slabs in its construction. At 18 stories, the luxury apartment complex stands as one of the tallest buildings in Old City.

Mid-State Filigree Systems Represented at Concrete Convention
This Automated Rebar Bender is One of the Many Exhibits at the World of Concrete Convention in Las Vegas
In an effort to keep up with the latest trends in the concrete industry, MFS attended the World of Concrete exhibition and conference in January.
The convention, which took place in Las Vegas, Nevada, featured indoor and outdoor exhibits of leading suppliers showcasing innovative products and technologies in commercial concrete. In addition to the numerous trade displays, the convention held various education and training workshops and seminars.
“The World of Concrete convention was very informative,” said Ted Betz, Vice President of Engineering. “I was able to evaluate some of the latest products under realistic test conditions, which could be incorporated into our operation.”
The World of Concrete conference has been the industry’s only annual international event dedicated to the commercial concrete and masonry construction industries. Approximately 1500 exhibitors of equipment manufacturers from around the world showcased equipment, tools, products, and services for the commercial construction, concrete, and masonry industries. The ACI-sponsored certification seminar sessions, given by top industry experts, provided training, updates, and certifications.
MFS Project Updates
The Beach at South Inlet, Atlantic City, N.J.
The Beach at South Inlet, another MFS project, was topped out in January. Fifty years after the land was cleared for redevelopment, Boraie Development built 250 sleek apartments on what was left of Pauline’s Prairie. The 80-acre tract of land was originally cleared for urban renewal by Pauline Hill, the Atlantic City Housing Authority Director, in 1972. It remained vacant and barren until Boraie Development built the $81 million dollar residential complex.
The project used 90,000 square-feet of Filigree Beam and Slab to construct pool and podium decks to elevate and support four floors of wood-framed housing. Elevating the residential space gave the residents greater security while providing space for parking and commercial use.
The Sono Collection Mall
MFS continued to deliver to the Norwalk, Conn. “The Sono Collection” Mall. a 1.2 million square feet garage using Filigree slabs and 60′ long-span slab beams.

The MFS manufacturing facility has successfully supplied over 50,000,000 square feet of Filigree Wideslab products without a single instance of delay, delivering, in some cases, over 45,000 square feet of material per week on a single project.
The Filigree method is a safe and lasting process for construction of concrete decks that successfully integrates “factory precast” and field-construction technologies. This is accomplished by constructing such decks from two interconnected concrete placements, one made in a factory, and the other done in the field. This process effectively accelerates the construction of structures with enhanced physical and aesthetic properties, and in many cases, may reduce their construction cost.
The Filigree construction method saves time, money and is environmentally friendly. With an established record of supplying Filigree material for composite concrete construction, MFS provides innovative solutions to satisfy demanding architectural and engineering challenges.
About Mid-State Filigree, Inc.
Mid-State Filigree Inc. has developed the Filigree construction method, a safe, economical and lasting process for construction of concrete decks that successfully integrates “factory precast” and field-construction technologies. With an established record of supplying Filigree material for composite concrete construction since 1968, Mid-State Filigree provides innovative solutions to satisfy demanding architectural and engineering challenges.
Filigree Wideslabs are factory produced on polished steel molds, making the field formed soffits flat and smooth, which can be finished as-is with the aid of properly applied paint or other suitable materials. This leaves the construction site clean and free of clutter and concrete dust.
Unlike Filigree, conventional concrete slab forms use wood and plywood materials that become contaminated and damaged during construction. Eventually these materials need to be disposed. In addition, such forms leave numerous imperfections and plywood joint impressions, which are in most cases corrected in the field with the aid of grinding power-tools. This process generates unhealthy silica and concrete dust emissions. The use of Filigree eliminates this wasteful and environmentally unfriendly process entirely.
